Web Conferencing

I do not have a webcam, so I couldn't do video conferencing, but I was able to do VoIP with my buddy Justin.  Some of the features I have with Skype is, instant message, I can send files, I can also add participants for a group chat.  Web conferencing would come in very handy.  Video conferencing can be used in business, it would save on travel expenses.  Sometimes job interviews are held through video conferencing, if the job is really far away.  It isn't just limited to two people.  Skype, and Google+ can both do a group video chat.  This would also come in handy for business use, a meeting between several different offices across the country, or world, could be set up in a matter of minutes.

   Upon reviewing/exploring Jay Leno's Garage, I would say that the target audience is car enthusiasts.  He doesn't just talk about his own cars, he also shows pictures, videos, and articles about other peoples cars.  Like Tim Allen's 1968 Camaro 427 COPO is on the website.
   I think Jay Leno's Garage effectively uses web 2.0, for several different reasons.  There is a stay connected section, where there are links to several social networking sites.  There is also a small Facebook post section, so whenever something is put on the Facebook page, it shows up on the main website as well.  At the top of the main page, there are some of the recent entries to the site, which helps provide a good interface for navigating the website.

Cloud Computing

   This lesson taught me a lot about cloud computing.  Cloud computing can be very beneficial for business use, as well as personal use.  Businesses can add computing power, like extra servers, on demand.  I think that cloud computing is only going to become more popular over time, because of how easy it is to use.

Email

Email is a way to send messages to people over the internet.  The information in this lesson was very helpful, and interesting.  This assignment has really taught me a lot about sending emails.  I never knew the difference between Cc and Bcc before this assignment.  I also learned that Reply All does not send reply to anyone in the Bcc box. 

Wikis

   What is a blog?  A blog is a way to share information with everyone on the internet.  There are a limited number of people that can edit a blog.  Anyone can view it, but only the author can edit it.  Sometimes a small group creates a blog, or there can be a large number of authors creating posts on one blog, called multi-author blogs (MABs).  Blogs are used to share opinions or inform people on topics, and ask for opinions from others.

   What is a wiki?  A wiki, like a blog, is a way to share information with everyone on the internet.  But where a wiki is different, anyone can edit or add information to a wiki.  Sometimes wikis are used in business for collaboration projects, where a large amount of people need to contribute to a project.

    Wikis are very easy to edit, they don't require any special software or browser add-ons to edit them.  Wikis also have history pages, where you can view the changes/edits other people have made.  Just because anyone can edit or add to a wiki, does not mean the information from wikis are bad, Wikipedia is a good resource for a lot of information.  But don't let wikis be the only place you find information, use other more reliable sources, in addition to wikis, when gathering information about a topic your are researching.

   I have known that wikis are very useful.  After watching the Jimmy Wales video about Wikipedia, I found that my opinion of wikis have changed slightly.  They are more reliable than I previously thought, I still would not use Wikipedia for the only source of information.
